Overview

In the summers of 1936 and 1937, the then young Kostas Montis (22-23 years old) lived in Moutoulas. During that period, as a correspondent for the newspaper "Eleftheria", he wrote a series of responses entitled "In the pine-covered mountains of Cyprus". His response about Moutoullas was entitled "Moutoullas, the village of pervolia" (August 1936). At the beginning of September of the same year, he published a response to the inventor teacher of Moutoullas, Ioannis Falconidis. In the summer of 1937, Montis, not only resided in Mutulla, but also developed a special relationship with many of the vacationers of Mutulla, to such an extent that he even gossiped about them. His response was entitled "Here and there from the life of Mutulla". In the same year, he published two of his poems about the Village in the newspaper "Eleftheria". Later he wrote two more poems under the title "Moutullas". After World War II, when Costas Montis married his beloved Ersi, he chose Moutoullas for his summer holidays. For many years he was one of the regular vacationers of the village. 2014 was proclaimed as the year of Kostas Montis on the occasion of the centenary of his birth and ten years since his death. Moutoullas then honoured the poet in the following ways: 1. With a big cultural event in the village. 2. With the inauguration of a monument in his honour, 3. With the publication of a volume of Montis' writings on Moutoullas. 4. With the organization of a poetry evening under a pansy, which was attended by several members of the poet's family.
